Williams and Fields Lead Roos in Road Battle at Cobleskill

Cobleskill, NY – Jevonte Williams and Terrence Fields led the Roos with 28 and 24 points, respectively, but host SUNY Cobleskill pulled away late for a 99-92 North Atlantic Conference (NAC) win on Saturday afternoon.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • Cobleskill jumped out to an early 10-3 lead and opened a nine point advantage on multiple occasions.
  • Canton battled all the way back eventually taking the lead at 34-33 after a Fields three-pointer with 4:44 to go in the opening half. The hosts took a slim 45-44 lead into intermission.
  • Fields led all players with 19 first-half points, while Jevonte Williams posted 10. Andre Starks (15) and Jeremy Rosario (11) led the hosts.
  • The Roos pounced on the Tigers out of intermission going on a 27-13 run to open up a 13 point advantage at 71-58 after a Fields three-pointer with 10:33 to play. Cobleskill stormed back with a 12-0 spurt to cut the lead to just one at 71-70.
  • The hosts took the lead for good on a Kobe Long three-pointer with 3:51 remaining. Brennan Harmer hit a three to cut the deficit to just 84-82 with 1:50 remaining.
  • Cobleskill went 17-for-18 from the line in the final 2 minutes and eight seconds to seal the win.  
 
INSIDE THE NUMBERS
  • Williams led the Roos with 28 points, four assists and four rebounds, while Fields tallied 24 points, nine rebounds and four assists. The duo combined to shoot 16-for-33 from the field and 14-for-16 from the charity stripe. Larson finished with 13 points and nine rebounds, while Streb finished with 11 points and four boards. Harmer chipped in seven points and four assists and Kevin Goode Jr. added six points, five assists and four steals.  
  • Starks led all players with 30 points for Cobleskill, while Long (21), Rosario (15) and Devin Dennard (12) tallied double figures.
  • The Tigers shot nearly 53% from the field and over 59% from three-point range while holding the Roos to marks of 46% and nearly 38%, respectively.
  • Canton held edges in bench points (27-21), points in the paint (38-32) and second chance points (14-9).
 
WHAT'S NEXT?
The men's basketball team is back in NAC action next Friday when they host SUNY Morrisville at 5:30 p.m.
