Paswaters Scores Game Winner, Roos Top Mustangs 5-3

Canton, NY – Freshman Isabella Paswaters scored a short-handed goal to give the SUNY Canton women's hockey team their first lead of the night, and classmate Riley Andzel scored an empty-netter in a 5-3 victory over SUNY Morrisville in a pivotal SUNYAC contest on Friday evening.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • After a scoreless first period, the Mustang's scored the opening two goals of the contest, the first coming off the stick of Hailee Easson at 4:13, followed by an Allie Davidson goal at 11:28.
  • The Roos answered just over a minute later, when junior Halle McKinnon took a pass from freshman Chamonix Jackson and buried her fourth of the season past Morrisville keeper Maggie Jones.
  • Morrisville's Alana McDonald put her team up 3-1, scoring a power play tally at 15:45 of the second.
  • Sophomore Danika Lalonde got the Roos back within one less than 30 seconds later, finishing a beautiful pass from sophomore Kyra O'Keefe.  Senior Desiree Snook earned the secondary assist.
  • O'Keefe tied the game at 7:57 of the third, sneaking a rebound of her own tipped shot underneath Jones and into the net, tying the game at three.  Freshman Anna Pavlasova and senior Makayla Young both were awarded assists on the goal.
  • Paswaters' steal off a Morrisville pass at center ice led to a breakaway and her short-handed effort to give the Roos their first lead of the evening.
  • Andzel's empty-netter was scored at 18:52 and capped four straight goals for Canton.
INSIDE THE NUMBERS
  • Lalonde's goal gives her 12 on the season to lead the team.  O'Keefe's two points puts her at 12 on the season, good enough for third on the team.
  • The Roos were 0/2 on the power play while Morrisville was 1/4.  Canton did score a short-handed goal.
  • Canton won 29 of the 54 faceoffs in the contest and were led by Snook who won 12.
  • Freshman Molly Lenihan earned the win, stopping 14 shots while her counter part Jones stopped 35.

The Roos will face Morrisville again tomorrow afternoon, January 27th at 3:00 p.m.
