Herringer Nets Two, Miller Pitches First Career Shutout as Roos Rout Bears

Potsdam, NY – Senior Nic Herringer scored two goals and freshman Trey Miller made 39 saves as the SUNY Canton men's hockey team defeated SUNY Potsdam 5-0 on Saturday night.  Miller continues his strong play, turning in another brilliant performance to earn the first shutout of his career.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • Sophomore Sam Brunton scored the opening goal at 8:13 of the first period.  Assisted by sophomore Scott Cremen and Miller.  The assist was the second of the year for the rookie netminder.
  • The Roos scored a power-play goal at 2:25 of the second when junior Colton Sipperley put the puck past Bear's goaltender Lenny Perno on a wrap around attempt.  The goal was assisted by Cremen and junior Brendan Morrow.
  • Herringer scored another power-play tally at 9:05 of the third, burying a cross-crease pass from Sipperley to put the Roos on top 3-0.  Sophomore Evan Pringle earned the secondary assist.
  • Pringle opened the scoring in the third, tipping a shot from senior captain Sebastien Paquette at 3:34 of the period.  Sophomore Trystan Mughal also assisted on the play.
  • Herringer closed out the scoring with his second of the evening with Pringle and freshman Cory Lui assisting.
INSIDE THE NUMBERS
  • Pringle's three-point night puts him atop the leader board in points with 20 on the season.  Herringer's two goals earns his second spot on the season with eight, just two behind leader Niko Schoner.
  • The Roos were 2/6 on the power play and a perfect 2/2 on the penalty kill.
  • Canton won the battle at the faceoff dot, 40-30 with Morrow leading the way for the second straight night with 12 draws won.
  • Miller's 39 saves boosted his save percentage to .931 on the season.  Perno made 22 saves for the Bears.
WHAT'S NEXT?
The Roos have next weekend off before traveling to Auburn, MA to face Anna Maria College on February 2nd and 3rd at 5:40 p.m. and 4:40 p.m. respectively.
