Pabo & Dayter Fuel Fourth Quarter Comeback Win vs. Husson

Canton, NY – Sierra Pabo led all players with 21 points and Samantha Dayter stuffed the stat sheet with 12 points, seven rebounds, six assists, four blocks and three steals as the SUNY Canton women's basketball team picked up a big 74-72 comeback win against Husson University on Saturday.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • Canton jumped out to an early 5-0 lead but Husson responded with a 9-0 run. The Eagles led by as many as eight taking a 19-13 lead after the opening quarter.
  • The Eagles extended their advantage to as many as nine in the second quarter, but the Roos were able to trim the deficit to four at 33-29 at intermission.
  • Pabo led the Roos with nine points in the opening half, while Hope Aniceto had eight and Dayter dished out six assists. Bailey Donovan paced Husson with 11 first-half points.
  • Husson used a 9-2 run out of half to take their largest lead of the game at 11 (42-31) with 6:33 left in the third. The Roos got within seven (55-48) headed to the fourth quarter.
  • The Eagles still led by 11 (65-54) with 4:37 remaining in the game after Hannah Richards split a pair of free throws. Husson still led by seven with 2:50 remaining but the Roos used a 7-0 run over a 1 minute, 25 second span to knot things up at 68 apiece with 1:25 to play. Dayter, Aniceto and Pabo all scored during the run.
  • Bailey Donovan finished a bucket inside to regain the Husson lead, but Pabo responded with a pair of free throws. Makaelyn Porter hit a jumper to put the Eagles up 72-70 with 47 seconds to play. After a miss from Canton, Dayter forced a turnover and was fouled. She calmly knocked down both free throws to tie the game with seven seconds to play.
  • After a Husson timeout Dayter came up with another steal and Pabo knocked down two more free throws. Husson drew up a play for a corner three just before the buzzer but the shot was off the mark as the Roos earned the big comeback win.
 
INSIDE THE NUMBERS
  • Pabo led all players with 21 points and added seven rebounds and three assists, while Aniceto tallied 14 points and a game-high four steals. Dayter was a force all over the court with 12 points, seven rebounds, six assists, four blocks and three steals including two in the final 16 seconds. Torie Moore also finished with 12 points, while Jayda Pida and Emma Perez added seven and six, respectively.
  • Donovan paced Husson with 17 points, 14 rebounds and five assists, while Sophia Mcvicar also scored in double figures with 16 points.
  • The Roos went 10-for-10 from the free throw line in the fourth quarter and made their final 12 free throw attempts in the game.
  • Husson held a 41-31 advantage in rebounds but turned the ball over 17 times compared to just eight for Canton which led to a 16-4 points off turnovers advantage for the Roos. The Eagles controlled second chance points 11-2.
 

WHAT'S NEXT?
The women's basketball team is back in NAC action next Friday when they host Eastern Nazarene College at 3 p.m.
