Lalonde Scores Two, Noftell Makes 18 Saves in Roos 4-1 Win at Buffalo State

Buffalo, NY – Sophomore Danika Lalonde scored two first-period goals and sophomore Claire Noftell stopped 18 shots to lead the SUNY Canton women's hockey team to a 4-1 victory over Buffalo State on Friday night.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • Lalonde opened the scoring at 5:13 of the first period, collecting a deflected pass and putting it top shelf past Bengal goalie Jessica Auge.  Lalonde's goal was assisted by freshman Riley Andzel and sophomore Sydney Valiquette.
  • Buff State tied the game at one on a Grace St. Zwolak power play goal at 12:31 of the first.
  • Lalonde put the Roos back on top 2-1 at the end of the first, when she took a pass at center ice from sophomore Asha Hanson, skated through three defenders and placed a shot past the glove of Auge.
  • Andzel extended the Roos lead with just 42 seconds left in the second period, collected a clearing pass in the slot and beating Auge five hole.          
  • Sophomore Kyra O'Keefe capped the scoring late in the third, scoring a wrap around goal at 16:55 of the period to put the Roos up 4-1.
INSIDE THE NUMBERS                                            
  • Lalonde now has nine goals on the season which ties her with senior Desiree Snook.
  • The Roos were 0/5 on the power play.  Buffalo State was 1/7.
  • The Bengals had a 26-24 advantage at the faceoff dot.
  • Noftell made 18 saves for the Roos.  Auge was credited with 30 saves for Buffalo State.
WHAT'S NEXT?
The Roos were originally scheduled to face the Bengals again tomorrow afternoon, but the game has been postponed due to the weather forecast.  Instead, the team will travel to face #5 Plattsburgh State on Friday January 19th at 7:00 p.m.
