HOW IT HAPPENED

Match 1 – BOX SCORE
  • The Mounties scored five quick points in the first set before a Marshall kill got the Roos on the board, making the score 5-1.  A Mount Aloysius kill extended their lead to 13-5 before consecutive kills by junior Sarah Balcom and Marshall brought SUNY Canton within six.  The teams traded points before the Mounties rattled off five straight points to win the set 25-12.
  • The two teams battled back-and-forth early in the second set before the Roos went ahead 9-8 on a Balcom kill.  A kill by Dreyer put SUNY Canton up 17-13, and from that point forward the Roos outscored the Mounties 8-2 to take the set 25-15.
  • In the third set, Mount Aloysius sprinted to a 7-1 lead, but the Roos battled back within one on a Balcom kill making the score 7-6.  The Mounties increased their lead to 20-9 before SUNY Canton closed the gap to 23-15 on a Bria Hunter kill.  Mount Aloysius scored the last two to win set three 25-15.
  • Mount Aloysius took an early lead in set four, before the Roos narrowed the lead to 10-9 on a Marshall kill.  Back-to-back kills by junior Cassidy Werner and Hunter made the score 15-11, but the Mounties scored 10 of the next 14 points to win the set 25-15 and take the match 3-1
 Match 2 – BOX SCORE
  • In the first set of the second match, Goucher claimed an early 7-0 lead on a Riley Kocell ace.  The Roos climbed their way back into contention, knotting the score at 10.  Canton would not take the lead until a Sammie Frank kill put them up 22-21.  A Balcom kill knotted the score at 23-23 and the Roos secured the final two points to win 25-23.
  • The second set remained close, with a Marshall kill tying the score at 12.  The Gophers scored nine straight to lead 21-12 before the Roos went on a run of their own, capped by a Frank ace to draw closer 21-18.  Goucher scored four of the next five to win the set 25-19.
  • The Roos never led in the third set, but would remain close.  Dreyer's third kill of the set closed the gap to 17-13 but SUNY Canton could get no closer, losing the set 25-20.
  • The resilience of SUNY Canton was evident in the fourth set, tying the score 9-9 on another Dreyer kill.  But after the Gopher's fell behind 18-13, it was their turn to make a run, tying the set 18-18.  Goucher briefly took the lead before the Roos scored five straight to win the set 25-21.
  • The fifth set was tight early, with SUNY Canton tying things at five on a Balcom kill.  But the Gophers recorded ten of the next 13 points to win the set 15-8, and the match 3-2.
