Stretton Nets First Collegiate Goal v. Lakers

Canton, NY – Freshman Chloe Stretton recorded her first career goal on a beautiful free kick in the second half, but the SUNY Canton women's soccer team dropped a 4-1 decision to visiting Oswego State on Tuesday afternoon.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • Oswego State got the scoring started in the 22nd minute off the foot of Katie Delgrosso. After receiving a pass from Emma Rechtorovic, Delgrosso made a nice cutback move to beat a defender before placing a right-footed shot into the left corner of goal.
  • The Lakers added a second goal in the 40th minute when Shayna Connally scored on a header off a rebound from a Delgrosso shot that was initially turned aside by Roos keeper Emma Cahill. Oswego led 2-0 at intermission.
  • The visitors made it 3-0 in the 51st minute when Brianna Winkler scored off her own rebound after another save from Cahill.
  • Stretton got Canton on the board in the 65th minute when she placed a beautiful free kick from way out just under the crossbar past Laker keeper Haley Muehl.
  • Delgrosso added her second goal and fifth point of the game in the 85th minute for the 4-1 final.
 
INSIDE THE NUMBERS
  • The Lakers dominated shots on goal 24-2 and had an 11-0 corner kicks advantage.
  • Delgrosso led the Lakers with two goals and an assist.
  • Cahill made a career high 19 saves in the loss. Perry Anderson stopped the only shot she faced over the first 56:35, while Muehl did not make a save over the final 33:25 allowing a goal.
 

WHAT'S NEXT?
The Roos are back in action on Sunday when they host Elmira College at 1 p.m.
