Williams Stops 12 Shots v. Wildcats on Faculty Appreciation Day

Canton, NY – Skylar Williams made 12 saves, but a hat trick from Hannah Shipley carried visiting SUNY Poly to a 4-0 win v. the SUNY Canton women's soccer team in a North Atlantic Conference (NAC) game on Wednesday.
 
The SUNY Canton seniors recognized their favorite faculty members in a pregame ceremony on Faculty Appreciation Day.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • The Wildcats got the scoring started in the 11th minute when Amanda Sweet played a length of field pass into Shipley on the break. Shipley buried a right-footed shot into the right corner past Canton keeper Skylar Williams.
  • SUNY Poly doubled their lead in the 42nd minute off a set piece. Rylie Fischer took the corner from the near sideline finding a cutting Shipley who headed home her second tally of the game.
  • The Wildcats held a 5-0 shots on goal and 4-0 corners advantage taking a 2-0 lead to intermission.
  • The visitors tacked on a third goal in the 55th minute when Aubree Smykla beat a defender and played a cross to the far post where Caroline Entwistle put home her first goal of the season.
  • Shipley completed the hat trick in the 79th minute finishing a cross from Entwistle for the 4-0 final.
 
INSIDE THE NUMBERS
  • The Wildcats controlled shots on goal (17-1) and corner kicks (6-0).
  • Williams made nine second half saves and 12 total for the game. Katie Bowers turned aside one shot for Poly.
  • Shipley led the Wildcats with three goals, while Entwistle added a goal and assist.

The Roos are back in action on Saturday when they host Marywood at 1 p.m.
