Frank Nieto posted five hits as the baseball team used an eight-run sixth inning comeback in the nightcap to earn a North Atlantic Conference (NAC) split in a doubleheader at Clarkson University on Saturday.

HOW IT HAPPENED

GAME 1 – BOX SCORE
- Both teams scored three runs each in the first inning of Saturday's opener. Allen doubled down the left field line to plate Nick Shoemaker and Alphonse Fuca singled home Nathan Welch and Allen.
- Cazenovia opened an 8-3 lead with five runs in the top half of the third, but the Roos were quick to respond with a four spot in the bottom half of the inning. Allen doubled home Nieto and Ty Reed hit a bases-clearing three RBI triple to bring across Welch, Allen and Fuca.
- The Roos knotted things up at 8-8 with a run in the fourth on a Welch sac fly to center scoring Nieto.
- The Wildcats regained the lead with a pair of runs in the fifth before Canton took back a two-run advantage in a seesaw battle with four runs in the sixth. Welch scored Mackenzie Mather and Shoemaker on a two RBI base hit and Fuca and Mike Henry plated Nieto and Welch, respectively, on a pair of sacrifice flies.
- Cazenovia scored three times in their final at-bats to take a one-run lead. The Roos got the tying run in scoring position and the winning run on first with one out in the bottom of the seventh, but a pair of fly outs ended the game.
- Allen was a perfect 4-for-4 scoring twice and driving in a pair of runs. Shoemaker went 3-for-5 scoring twice and Nieto was 2-for-5 crossing home three times. Welch, Fuca and Reed all drove in three runs each.
- Brendan Mair led Cazenovia with a 3-for-4 performance scoring four times, while Jack Lees and Derek Holmes had three hits each.
- JP Kaufman picked up the win for Cazenovia tossing a scoreless sixth inning allowing one hit. Carter Matus was credited with the save throwing the seventh inning allowing one hit with a walk and a strike out.
- Anthony Bocchino took the loss for Canton throwing the final 2.1 innings allowing one earned run with a walk.

GAME 2 – BOX SCORE
- The Roos got on the board first in the opening inning of the nightcap on an Allen single scoring Nieto.
- The Wildcats took a 7-1 lead heading to the bottom half of the third with two runs in the second and five in the third.
- Canton got within four with a pair of runs in the third on an Allen two RBI double to bring home Nieto and Welch.
- Trailing by four the Roos rallied with eight runs in the bottom of the sixth. Fuca tripled to center scoring Allen, Maldonado singled up the middle to score Fuca, and Shoemaker brought home Henry and Reed on a two RBI double. Nieto doubled home Edilberto Rosado, Allen scored Nieto on a ground out, and a Fuca base hit completed the scoring as Welch came across.
- Donald Cordova pitched a scoreless seventh inning allowing one hit with a strikeout to stave off any Cazenovia comeback bid.
- Hunter LaValley earned the win throwing 2.1 innings of scoreless ball allowing three hits with a pair of strike outs.
- Kyle Clark took the loss for Cazenovia allowing four earned runs on three hits without recording an out.
- Allen went 2-for-3 scoring once and driving in four runs, while Fuca was 3-for-3 with a run and two RBI. Nieto hit 3-for-4 with three runs and drove in two runs, while Welch also had a two-hit game.
- Anthony Cretella and Parker Wing had three hit games to lead Cazenovia.
