Five Roos Register Hits in Twinbill at Clarkson

Potsdam, NY – Five different players recorded a hit on the day, but the SUNY Canton softball team dropped a non-league doubleheader at Clarkson University by scores of 10-2 and 16-2 on Tuesday.

HOW IT HAPPENED
 
GAME 1 – BOX SCORE
  • Clarkson jumped out to a 7-0 lead after four innings behind three runs each in the first and fourth innings and tacked on another run in the second.
  • Canton would get within 7-2 after their at-bats in the sixth behind one run each in the fifth and sixth frames. Caitlyn Reed scored in the fifth as Sophia Gundersen reached on an error and Kiley Zicari drew a walk in the sixth scoring Angelina LoPiccolo.
  • The Golden Knights would add three runs in the bottom of the sixth to earn a 10-2 win in six innings.
  • Gundersen, LoPiccolo and Jodie Soultau had one hit each for Canton. Bridget Twaits went 4-for-4 for Clarkson and Emma Sabourin was 3-for-3 with three RBI.
  • Riley Page picked up the win for the hosts allowing just one hit with six strike outs and a walk in four innings of work.
  • Abigail Sawyer took the loss surrendering nine earned runs with two fanned batters and five walks in five and two-thirds innings.
 
GAME 2 – BOX SCORE
  • Canton got out to a brief lead in the nightcap when Priscilla Soule reached on a fielder's choice in the first and Gundersen scored from second on a throwing error.
  • The Knights put up all 16 of their runs in the first three innings of the nightcap scoring four times in the first, nine in the second and three in the third.
  • The Roos would add a run in the third on a Soule sacrifice fly to score Gundersen, but it would not be enough to overcome Clarkson's bats.
  • Gundersen, LoPiccolo, Jheri White and Taryn Morrissey all had hits for Canton with Gundersen scoring both of Canton's runs. Zoey Kovach had three hits, scored twice and drove in two runs, while Devin Fitzpatrick helped her own cause with two hits, two runs and four RBI for the Knights.
  • Fitzpatrick was credited with the win for Clarkson allowing one earned run with five strike outs and a walk in three innings.
  • Reed took the loss giving up 13 runs with two walks in two innings.
     
WHAT'S NEXT?
The Roos are back in action for another non-league doubleheader when they visit Castleton on Wednesday at 3 p.m.
