LoPiccolo Leads Roos in Doubleheader v. Cardinals

Canton, NY – Angelina LoPiccolo broke up a perfect game in the opener and a no-hitter in the nightcap, but the SUNY Canton softball team dropped a pair of games 15-0 and 11-0 to visiting Plattsburgh State on Wednesday.

HOW IT HAPPENED
 
GAME 1 – BOX SCORE
  • Kristina Maggiacomo was dominant in the opener for the Cardinals throwing a no-hitter with 15 strike outs. LoPiccolo broke up the perfect game as she reached first base on a wild pitch dropped third strike in the bottom of the fifth.
  • Plattsburgh led just 3-0 after three innings but blew the game open with a 12-run fifth inning.
  • Claire Palmer led the Cardinals with three hits and two RBI, while Mikayla Manalo had two hits and drove in three runs scoring three more. Julia Golino, Rebecca Diller, Kelsy Waite and Michelle Gonzales all had multi-hit outings for the Cardinals.
  • Abigail Sawyer took the loss for the Roos surrendering 13 earned runs with three strike outs and seven walks.
 
GAME 2 – BOX SCORE
  • The Cardinals opened a 3-0 lead in the second inning of the nightcap on a Gonzales homer and a Golino RBI single.
  • Plattsburgh tacked on three more runs in the fifth and five in the sixth for the 11-0 final.
  • Golino carried a no-hitter into the fifth that was broken up by a LoPiccolo double, as she registered Canton's lone hit.
  • Palmer, Golino and Kylie Persampire all registered two hits each with Golino and Persampire driving in four runs each. Golino, Gonzales and Persampire all homered.
  • Golino finished with a one-hitter to improve to 7-0 on the season tossing six innings with 16 strike outs.  
  • Caitlyn Reed took the loss allowing 11 runs with three strike outs and seven walks.
     
WHAT'S NEXT?
The Roos are back in action on Friday when they visit SUNY Cobleskill for a NAC doubleheader beginning at 2 p.m.
