Fuca and Allen Record Three Hits Each in NAC Doubleheader at Poly

Fuca Has Reached Base in 14 Straight Games, Allen on Eight Game Hitting Streak

Utica, NY – Alphonse Fuca and Dylan Allen recorded three hits each on the day, but the SUNY Canton baseball team dropped a North Atlantic Conference (NAC) doubleheader at SUNY Poly by scores of 4-2 and 7-4 on Saturday.
With his three hits on the day Fuca has now reached base in a team-best 14 straight games, while Allen is currently on a team-high eight-game hitting streak.

HOW IT HAPPENED
 
GAME 1 – BOX SCORE
  • The Wildcats got on the board with a run in the first inning and added three in the third.
  • The Roos got two back in the fourth on a Nick Barone RBI single down the right field line that scored Nathan Welch. Ty Reed followed with a sacrifice fly to left to plate Dylan Allen.
  • Canton was able to get a runner to third in the fifth inning and one runner on base in the sixth and seventh innings but was unable to get closer than bringing the tying runner to the plate.
  • Fuca led the Roos with two hits, while six players had one hit each.
  • Ethan Merone paced the Poly bats with three hits and two RBI, while Don Vento and Christopher Martin had a pair of hits each.
  • Aaron Kifer picked up the win for the Wildcats tossing a complete game allowing two runs with two strike outs and a walk.
  • Kieran Gibson took the loss allowing four runs with a pair of strike outs in 5.1 innings.
 
GAME 2 – BOX SCORE
  • SUNY Poly jumped out to a quick lead in the nightcap scoring six runs in the first inning, which proved to be all they would need.
  • Canton got one back in the third and two in the fourth. Derek Maldonado hit a solo shot to left in the third and Reed and Edilberto Rosado had RBI singles in the fourth.
  • The Roos got within 6-4 in the top half of the sixth when Reed scored Allen on another sacrifice fly.
  • Poly would tack on an insurance run in the bottom half of the sixth. Canton got the leadoff hitter on in the seventh but a double play and ground out ended the game.
  • Allen led the Roos with a pair of hits, while James Lynch, Alexander Bonacci and Carter Romansky all had multi-hit outings for the hosts.
  • Jack Montanye picked up the win for Poly throwing a complete game allowing four runs with five strike outs and five walks.
  • Anthony Bocchino took the loss for Canton allowing six runs in one-third of an inning.

These two teams will play another NAC doubleheader on Tuesday at 12 p.m. in Canton.
