Angelina LoPiccolo both hit homers in the nightcap and
Caitlyn Reed earned her first two career wins on the mound as the SUNY Canton softball team swept visiting Wells College by scores of 9-6 and 17-4 in a non-conference doubleheader on Wednesday afternoon.

HOW IT HAPPENED

GAME 1 – BOX SCORE
- Wells got on the board first scoring an unearned run after the Roos had retired the first two batters of the inning.
- The Roos took their first lead of the game in the top half of the second scoring three runs on a bases-clearing three RBI double from Taryn Morrissey as she brought across Jheri White, Abigail Sawyer and Sophia Gundersen.
- Canton tacked on four more runs in the third inning to build a six-run advantage after three. Gundersen doubled home both Brooke Basmajian and White. Morrissey followed with an RBI base hit to center plating Sawyer.
- Wells got one run back in the fourth to trim the deficit to five. The Express continued to battle bringing four runners across in the fifth as the Roos led by just one heading to the sixth.
- The Roos tacked on a pair of insurance runs in the bottom half of the sixth on a two RBI double from Angelina LoPiccolo for the 9-6 final.
- LoPiccolo led the Roos going 3-for-4 with two RBI, while Morrissey and Gundersen had two hits each and drove in four and two runs, respectively.
- Serina Sheradin, Shanyce Gonzales, Sara Mattle and Morgan Brown all had two hits each for Wells.
- Caitlyn Reed picked up her first win of the season throwing a complete game giving up four earned runs. She struck out seven and walked three on 123 pitches.
- Mattle took the loss for the Express giving up five earned runs with three strike outs and three walks in six innings.

GAME 2 – BOX SCORE
- The Roos jumped out to a quick lead scoring four runs in the bottom of the first. Reed doubled home Morrissey, LoPiccolo singled home Reed, Soule scored on a wild pitch and LoPiccolo scored on a wild pitch.
- Wells got within a run scoring three runs in the top half of the second, but Canton quickly responded with six runs in the bottom half of the inning. Soule hit a grand slam down the left field line bringing across Morrissey, Reed and Currie.
- Canton tacked on three more runs in the third on a LoPiccolo three-run homer to left field.
- Wells got one run back in the fourth before the Roos added another four runs in the bottom of the inning. Morrissey singled home Sawyer, Soule doubled home Morrissey and Currie, and Soule later scored on a LoPiccolo RBI single.
- Soule led the Roos with two hits, three runs and 6 RBI, while LoPiccolo went a perfect 4-for-4 with two runs and 5 RBI. Sawyer drove in a pair of runs and Morrissey and Reed both had three hits each. Basmajian also had a multi-hit outing for the Roos who exploded for 16 hits.
- Brown, Lauren Kimball and Natalie Day had two hits each for the Express.
- Reed picked up her second win of the day allowing just one earned run with two strike outs and three walks in five innings.
- Megan Litzenberger took the loss for Wells giving up eight runs with a strike out and three walks in 1.2 innings.
