Syracuse, NY – Ty Reed,
Frank Nieto and
Anthony Bocchino combined for seven hits, but the SUNY Canton baseball team dropped a doubleheader against Utica University by scores of 13-12 and 6-2 on Wednesday afternoon at Onondaga Community College.

HOW IT HAPPENED

GAME 1 – BOX SCORE
- The Roos got on the board first with a pair of runs in the top of the first. Nick Shoemaker scored on a passed ball and Alphonse Fuca followed with an RBI triple to right center to bring home Nathan Welch.
- The Pioneers responded with a seven spot in the bottom of the frame and added a run in the second to take an 8-2 lead.
- Canton tied things up at eight with six runs in the third inning. Fuca scored Hunter LaValley on a hit by pitch, Nick Barone plated Welch on an RBI infield single and Frank Nieto brought home Dylan Allen and Fuca on a two RBI single. Barone would later score on an error by the pitcher and Ty Reed concluded the scoring in the frame when he brought across Nieto on an RBI base hit.
- Utica regained the lead with four runs in the bottom of the third. The Pioneers extended the lead to 13-8 with another run in the sixth inning.
- The Roos battled back in their final at-bats in the seventh inning with two outs. Nieto walked home Welch and Reed hit a bases clearing three RBI double scoring Allen, Mackenzie Mather and Nieto. With the tying run at second Shoemaker drew a walk but the comeback bid came up short on a strikeout to end the game.
- Shoemaker, Welch, Nieto and Reed all had multi-hit outings for the Roos, while Reed drove in four runs and Nieto had three RBI.
- Brendan May, John Son and Dom Fasolo had two hits apiece for the Pioneers, while Son drove in six runs with a triple and home run. Fasolo also homered for Utica.
- Kayden Guerin earned the no-decision giving up seven runs (three earned) in one inning with a walk and a strikeout. Michael Sandarr took the loss allowing five earned runs with three walks and a strike out in three innings.
- James Roeschlaub was credited with the win for Utica allowing six runs (five earned) with three strike outs and two walks in two innings.

GAME 2 – BOX SCORE
- Utica plated three runs in the first and added one in the second of the nightcap. The Pioneers would tack on another run in the fourth holding a 5-0 lead heading to the sixth.
- Canton got on the board when Derek Maldonado doubled down the left field line to score Frank Nieto.
- Utica got that run back in the bottom half of the inning before the Roos added a second run in their final at-bats. Welch singled up the middle to bring home Anthony Bocchino. With two runners on base the Roos rally would fall short on a ground out.
- Bocchino had a big game going 3-for-3 scoring once, while Welch had another two-hit game.
- May and Fasolo had two hit games for Utica with Fasolo and Joe Crossley driving in two runs each.
- Dylan Sullivan earned the win for Utica tossing two innings in relief with a pair of strike outs.
- Danny Vargas took the loss for the Roos allowing five runs with five strikeouts and four walks in five innings.
