HOW IT HAPPENED
- The Roos got on the board first when Nathan Welch scored Edilberto Rosado from first on an RBI double in the sixth inning.
- The Green Knights responded with four runs in the bottom of the frame. Kieran Gibson struck out the first two batters of the inning and would've had a third consecutive out, but an error extended the inning. After giving up a single, St. Norbert hit a three-run homer and another miscue by the Roos defense allowed a fourth run to score in the frame.
- Canton got within one run midway through the eighth on a Nick Shoemaker RBI single and a Rosado RBI ground out. With a runner on third and one out the Green Knights intentionally walked the Roos slugger Welch. That decision paid off as the following batter grounded into a double play to end the inning.
- St. Norbert tacked on an insurance run on an RBI single in the eighth.
- Trailing by two runs heading into their final at-bats Allen led off the inning with a single. However, two strike outs and a ground out would end the game.
Â
INSIDE THE NUMBERS
- Reed went 2-for-3 scoring once for the Roos, while Allen was 2-for-4. Shoemaker, Welch, Hunter LaValley and Frank Nieto had the other Canton hits.
- Trevor Reinhardt went 3-for-4 with the home run and drove in four runs for St. Norbert, while Sebastien Dubois was 2-for-3 scoring twice.
- Jason Schroeder earned the win for the Green Knights tossing eight innings giving up three runs with three strike outs and a walk. Reinhardt was credited with the save tossing the final inning with a pair of fanned batters.
- Gibson threw eight innings for the Roos allowing five runs, only one of which was earned. He had six strike outs and no walks.
