Shoemaker Drives in Four Runs v. Lions

Auburndale, FL – Nick Shoemaker recorded a pair of hits and drove in four runs as the SUNY Canton baseball team dropped a 13-7 decision to Mt. St. Joseph University on Monday in Florida.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • Mount St. Joseph jumped out to an early 7-0 lead scoring two runs in the first and five in the second inning.
  • The Roos bounced back with three runs each in the third and fourth innings to get within 8-6 midway through the fourth. Edilberto Rosado brought home Derek Maldonado after reaching base on an error in the third. Ty Reed also scored on the play. Shoemaker scored later in the inning on a balk. Shoemaker laced a bases clearing 3 RBI triple to right center in the fourth scoring Dylan Allen, Ian Gacek and Reed.
  • The teams went into a lightning delay after the Roos at-bats in the top of the fourth.
  • When play resumed in the fourth the Lions scored one run and tacked on another in the fifth and seventh innings.
  • The Roos added a run in the eighth when Shoemaker scored Alphonse Fuca on an RBI ground out. Fuca led off the inning with a double.
  • The Lions added a pair of runs in the eighth inning to secure the 13-7 win.
 
INSIDE THE NUMBERS
  • Shoemaker led the Roos with two hits, a triple and 4 RBI. Rosado drove in the other run, while Allen also had three hits. Reed scored twice for Canton.
  • Jake Lawson led the Lions with three hits, three runs and 2 RBI. Matt Brankamp finished with a pair of hits and 2 RBI, while Jackson Gutzwiller posted a pair of hits and drove in a run.
  • Brice McGee took the no-decision for the Lions tossing four innings allowing four earned runs on three hits with three walks and six strike outs. Richter picked up the win throwing four effective innings in relief surrendering one run on five hits with three walks and five strike outs.
  • Kieran Gibson took the loss for the Roos allowing eight runs on seven hits with three walks and five strike outs in three innings.  
     
WHAT'S NEXT?
The Roos are back in action on Tuesday when they square off with Beloit College and Knox College at 1 and 5 p.m., respectively.
