Sirota and Martin Lead Roos on Senior Day

Canton, NY – Sophomore Zac Sirota and senior Sam Martin scored for the SUNY Canton men's hockey team but the Roos dropped their season finale to the Arcadia Knights 6-3 on Saturday afternoon.  The Roos honored their six seniors Brendan McCormack, Matt Passaretti, Martin, Matthew Headland, Noah Robinson and Jarrod Croswell in a pregame ceremony.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • Arcadia jumped ahead on two quick goals by Connor Williams and Brendan Dicker early in the first period.
  • Sirota sliced the lead to 2-1 at 6:56 second period when he tipped a shot in front of the net, picked up his rebound and backhanded a shot for his 12th goal of the year.  Junior Sebastien Paquette assisted on the goal.
  • Sirota tied the game at two, scoring his second of the afternoon by tipping in a shot from sophomore Filip Jakobsson at 13:22 of second period. Junior Trevor Christopher also assisted on the play.
  • The Knights scored two more goals in the second on goals by Dylan Florit and Donnie Feldman to take a 4-2 lead into intermission.
  • James Spaargaren extended Arcadia's lead to 5-2 at 11:21 of the third before senior Sam Martin closed the gap to 5-3.  Martin took a nifty between the legs from freshman Scott Cremen and shot it past Ryan Burgess.  Jakobsson earned the secondary assist on the goal.
  • Conor Williams scored an empty net power play goal with just 10 seconds remaining to give the Knights the 6-3 win.
INSIDE THE NUMBERS
  • Sirota finished the season as the top goal scorer with 13, Martin finished in second with nine goals.
  • SUNY Canton was 1/4 on the power play and 4/5 on the penalty kill
  • Canton had a 39-31 advantage on faceoffs.
  • Kelson Hooper made 24 saves and Filip Schlyter finished with 6 saves in relief.
  • Burgess made 40 saves for the Knights.

SUNY Canton finished the year with a 12-13 record to close out the 22-23 season.
