Canton, NY – The SUNY Canton Esports teams wrapped up a successful fall 2023 semester that saw the Roos various teams compile over 160 wins in both State University of New York (SUNY) and Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC) play as the Roos League of Legends 'A' team had a perfect season going unbeaten in regular season play on their way to winning an ECAC championship.
Â
The team of
Garrett Bresett (Jungle),
Kal-El Key (Mid Lane),
Mason Olcsvary (Top Lane),
Aeneas Noel (ADC) and
Charles Fuller were the only team to go a perfect 8-0 during regular season play just ahead of 7-1 Catawba College.
Â
The Roos would continue their impressive play in postseason as they did not drop a single game in any of their matches. The Canton 'A' team defeated the Roos 'B' team 2-0 in the first round of playoffs. They followed that up with a 2-0 win against Siena College before sweeping Catholic University 3-0 in the semifinals setting up a championship match between the top two teams all season.
Â
SUNY Canton would once again prevail sweeping Catawba College 3-0. A typical match in league play last 30 minutes or longer but the Roos were able to complete the impressive sweep in less than 20 minutes.
"One of the team's biggest strengths comes from their smart draft phase and their well-managed macro game," Esports Coordinator
Justin Brooks said. "They have remained disciplined during match time and prioritized game objectives and didn't let excitement or pressure get to them and make a costly mistake. They deserved this win more than anyone else in that bracket."
Â
Â
The Roos featured teams competing in Rainbow Six Siege, Super Smash Bros. Ultimate, Valorant, Overwatch II, League of Legends, Omega Strikers and Rocket League in ECAC play. In SUNY league Canton had teams competing in Guilty Gear Strive, Overwatch II, Valorant, Street Fighter 6 and Rocket League.
Â
Â
Â
Top performances in SUNY league included the Guilty Gear Strive team going 21-9 during the regular season and three of the four Roos Street Fighter 6 teams posting winning records as well as a 5-2 mark for the Overwatch II 'A' team. The Overwatch II team would advance to the semifinals in playoffs before falling to Binghamton University. Â Â Â
