Rainbow Six Siege Wins Fall 2025 ECAC Championship

Canton, NY – The SUNY Canton Rainbow Six Siege A team won the Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC) Esports championship with a perfect 10-0 record during the fall 2025 season.

The undefeated Fall 2025 championship marks a significant milestone for SUNY Canton esports and reflects the continued growth and success of the program. This win means a lot to our esports players, especially their coaches who have been rebuilding the team throughout the fall semester.

Rainbow Six Siege is a tactical team-based shooter game where two squads of attackers and defenders compete in high-stakes, objective-focused rounds. Success depends on strategy, communication, and mastering unique operators with specialized abilities. As of now, Rainbow 6 Siege has 76 unique operators, players can choose characters whose specialty best aligns with their team.

Following the fall season, we sat down with coach Joe Loperfido and player Dalton Murphy to talk about winning the Fall 2025 championship and their plans for the spring season.

Dalton Murphy Interview
Q: How has playing for SUNY Canton's Rainbow Six Siege team impacted you?
A: Physically and mental it has had a great impact on me. Coming into my freshman year, I didn't have any friends except for my roommate. The program itself has opened me up to so many new people to meet and I've made a lot a friends that I'll keep once I'm gone.

Q: Talk about the process the team went through to rebuild and how everyone worked together to become Fall 2025 R6 Champions?
A: I would say it's a matter of us finding consistency among our players, in previous semesters we had a lot of team changes with people graduating or transferring out. Last year we managed to find a group of kids who stuck it out together, the chemistry between all of us was probably the biggest reason we were able to win it all.

Q: What operator(character/role) do you like to play as, and what makes them special?
A: A character I like to play as is an attacker named Capitao, the main reason I like playing as him is due to his versatility and flexible playing style. He's also useful in virtually any situation in the game.

Q: What are you looking forward to this upcoming season?
A: I look forward to winning it all again and I hope that we can keep the guys together, keep spirits up so we can hopefully bring it all together again.

Joe Loperfido Interview

Q: How do you keep your team motivated during the matches?
A: We take each game, week by week and make sure to not let the previous game get to our heads.

Q: Talk about the process the team went through to rebuild and how everyone worked together to become Fall 2025 R6 Champions?
A: They put in extra hours and worked hard to get where they did. They went over all of the strategies we had laid out and performed well.

Q: How were you able to use your previous experiences competing to lead this group as coach?
A: I was able to relate to the players and use my experience to help them along the way when they faced an issue.

Q: What is one strategy your team has taken advantage of in the past that you will use again for this upcoming season?
A: We rely heavily on good communication and good teamwork. Working together is the core of our team and once we're able to figure out all the roles we'll be fine. Hopefully we'll win it all!
