Newcomers Bartle and Pabo Lead Roos in Opener Against Bobcats

Canton, NY – Senior transfer Natalie Bartle scored 27 points and added 11 rebounds and freshman Sierra Pabo finished with 16 points and three assists, leading the SUNY Canton women's basketball team to a 79-69 victory in their home opener against Bryant & Stratton College Syracuse.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • Bartle scored the first points of the season for the Roos, draining a three-point shot to give the team a 3-2 lead.  A jumper by Bartle and two layups by sophomore Marijke Kroon pushed the lead to 20-10.  Freshman Abigail Rice hit a jumper to close out scoring for the quarter with the Roos up 20-14.
  • The Bobcats pushed back in the second quarter, tying the game 28-28 midway through the quarter before another Bartle three helped the Roos regain the lead.  Consecutive layups by Kroon and Bartle extended the lead as the first half finished with Canton leading 41-32.
  • SUNY Canton extended their lead to 22 points in the third quarter behind Bartle's nine points and eight more from Pabo, pushing the lead to 68-46.
  • Despite a late push by the Bobcats, the Roos cruised to 79-69 victory.
INSIDE THE NUMBERS
  • Bartle led the Roos with 27 points, 11 rebounds and four steals.  Pabo tallied 16 points and three assists.  Senior Samantha Dayter led Canton with two blocks, grabbed eight rebounds and dished out four assists.
  • Kadijah Jones led the Bobcats with 29 points.  Jones and Destiny Perry tied game-highs with 11 rebounds.
  • Canton dominated bench points 24-0, while rebounding was even at 49 each.  The Roos shot 39.2% from the field and 84.2% from the free throw line, the Bobcats shot 33.8% and 57.1%, respectively.

SUNY Canton heads to Waterville, ME to play host Thomas College in the Charlie Ryan Classic on Saturday November 11th at 6:00 p.m.
