Houghton, NY – In a battle of two unbeatens
Hope Aniceto and
Natalie Bartle led the way in double figures, but host Houghton outscored the Roos 39-25 in the second half en route to a 64-57 non-conference win on Tuesday evening.

HOW IT HAPPENED
- Houghton jumped out to an early 8-2 lead less than four minutes in, but the Roos outscored the Highlanders 13-6 the remainder of the quarter to own a 15-14 lead after 10 minutes. The run ended with an Emma Perez made jumper with 13 seconds left in the first frame.
- Canton outscored the hosts 17-10 in the second quarter including ending the half on a 5-0 run in the final 23 seconds behind an Aniceto three-pointer and Bartle steal and layup as time expired. The Roos led 32-25 at intermission.
- Bartle led the Roos with 10 first half points, while Aniceto had seven. Carlee Miller and Kayla Camacho had six each in the first half.
- The Highlanders started the second half on a 9-1 run with Tabitha DeVries scoring all nine for the hosts.
- Bartle, the Roos leading scorer, was injured and left the game for good with Canton leading 33-32 with 5:56 remaining in the third quarter.
- Overall, Devries scored 11 straight points for Houghton. Marijke Kroon dropped in the Roos first field goal in the second half with 5:11 left in the third giving the Roos a one point lead (35-34).
- Torie Moore gave the Roos a lift off the bench scoring five straight points to keep Canton up two at 40-38. Jayda Pina knocked down a jumper with 35 seconds left in the quarter as the teams would head to the fourth tied at 42 apiece.
- The game remained tied at 46 nearly midway through the fourth after a Samantha Dayter old-fashioned three-point play. In a tight contest the teams were still knotted at 49 apiece with 4:14 to play after a Moore free throw.
- The Roos trailed by just one with 2:22 to go after an Aniceto layup, but Houghton closed the final two minutes of the game on a 9-3 run to secure the win.

INSIDE THE NUMBERS
- Aniceto led the Roos with 12 points and three assists shooting 5-for-10 from the field and 2-for-4 from three-point range. Bartle finished with 10 points, seven rebounds and two steals playing the first 24 minutes of the game. Dayter and Moore registered eight points each while combining for 10 rebounds. Kroon tallied six points and four boards.
- With her 2-for-4 mark from three tonight Aniceto continues her hot start to the season as she is shooting nearly 43% from long distance this season and has made 26 threes. She came into the night ranked third nationally in NCAA Division III with 24 made three-pointers and 15th in made threes per game (3.43).
- DeVries led Houghton with 20 points, while Camacho recorded a double-double on 15 points and 10 rebounds. Emma Cole also scored in double figures with 10.
- Both teams played strong defense as Canton shot just 34% from the field, but Houghton also only hit nearly 36% of their shots.
- Houghton had the edge in points in the paint (38-26), while the Canton bench outscored the Highlander reserves, 20-12. The hosts held a 48-37 advantage in re bounds.
