Jackson’s Late Game-Winner Lifts Roos Past Mustangs, 3-2

Canton, NY – Chamonix Jackson scored the game-winner with 2 minutes, 15 seconds left in the third period to lift the SUNY Canton women's hockey team to a 3-2 win against visiting Stevenson University in a non-league game on Friday afternoon.

THE BASICS
  • Result: SUNY Canton 3, Stevenson 2
  • Location: Roos House – Canton, NY
  • Records: SUNY Canton (6-3) | Stevenson (1-9)
HOW IT HAPPENED
  • The Roos got on the board first at 8:32 of the opening period on the power play. Iida Laitinen skated the length of the ice beating a defender and placing a shot past the glove of Ainsley King.
  • Canton held an 8-3 shots on goal advantage and 1-0 lead on the scoreboard after the opening period.
  • The Mustangs knotted things at one at 9:01 of the middle period. Meghan Croyle worked to free the puck at the end boards as it was touched by Hannah Labbe out in front before Cassie Campbell buried the loose puck past Anna Maulson.
  • Shortly after the Stevenson goal the Roos went on their second power play of the game and peppered King with four straight shots but she stopped all four attempts.
  • Canton would take the lead back at the 17 minute mark once again with the skater advantage. Sydney Valiquette found Riley Andzel below the left circle and she played a quick pass to Danika Lalonde in the slot who put home a one-timer past the glove of King.
  • The Roos outshot Stevenson 25-10 in the second period taking a 2-1 lead into second intermission.
  • The Mustangs tied things at 2-2 at 2:44 of the third period off an offensive zone draw win by Emma Deman. She won it back to Emily Brightbill who ripped a shot top shelf that made the water bottle pop.
  • Canton had two power play chances in the third period but were unable to convert on the shortened skater advantage opportunities.
  • Jackson's late goal proved to be the difference as she scored with just over two minutes remaining. Kyra O'Keefe won possession of the puck at the near boards finding Anna Pavlasova through the neutral zone. She left a drop pass for Jackson who ripped a shot past the blocker of King.

INSIDE THE NUMBERS
