Six Different Roos Score in Dominating Win Over Anna Maria

Canton, NY – Sophomore Sydney Valiquette scored one goal and had two assists and freshman Molly Lenihan recorded an 18 save shutout to lead the SUNY Canton women's hockey team to a 6-0 victory over Anna Maria College on Friday night.

HOW IT HAPPENED
 
  • The Roos dominated the first period, outshooting the Amcats 20-4 but were unable to solve goaltender Sam Dahill.
  • Canton broke through at the 15:52 mark of the second, when freshman Riley Andzel danced around three Amcat defenders, lifting a shot over the outstretched glove of Dahill.  The power play goal was Andzel's third of the season and assisted by Valliqute and senior Iida Laitinen.
  • The Roos doubled their lead just 47 seconds later, when Jayme McIlveen intercepted an outlet pass at the dot and rifled a slapshot in the top right corner of the net.
  • Canton continued their offensive onslaught in the third, scoring four goals in three minutes.  Valiquette, Laitinen, sophomore Danika Lalonde and junior Halle McKinnon all lit the lamp for the Roos, leading to their 6-0 victory.
INSIDE THE NUMBERS
  • The Roos balanced attack received goals from six separate skaters with four players recording multi-point nights including Valiquette, McKinnon, Laitinen and Andzel.
  • Lenihan's shutout was her third in six appearances this season.
  • Canton was 1/5 on the power play, Anna Maria was 0/5.
  • The Roos were dominate at the faceoff dot as well, winning 54 draws to the Amcats 25.  Senior Desiree Snook led the way with 16 wins.
  • Dahill made 37 saves in just over 37 minutes of work.  Megan Tegethoff finished the game with five in relief.
