Randall Helps Roos Tie Maine Maritime

Castine, ME – For the second day in a row, sophomore Eric Randall scored a critical goal, this time helping the SUNY Canton men's soccer team record a last-minute tie with host Maine Maritime Academy in a North Atlantic Conference (NAC) matchup.

THE BASICS
  • Result:  SUNY Canton 1, Maine Maritime Academy 1
  • Location: Ritchie Field – Castine, ME
  • Records: SUNY Canton (3-7-2, 1-2-2) | Maine Maritime Academy (7-4-2, 4-1-1)
HOW IT HAPPENED
  • After a tight and scoreless first half, the Mariner's Gabriel Toledo took a pass at the top of the penalty area, split two defenders and placed the ball just past the hands of outstretched goalkeeper Owen Kwong.  The goal came at 56:33.
  • With time ticking down, the Roos frantically moved the ball downfield.  Randall riffled the ball off a defender, controlled his own rebound and blasted a shot through the defense and past the Mariner goalkeeper to tie the game 1-1 with under two minutes to play.
  • The Roos had a chance to go ahead when Randall collected a crossing pass and hammered a shot from deep inside the penalty area, but it was blocked by a Maine Maritime defender as time expired.
INSIDE THE NUMBERS
  • Randall's goal was his third of the season.  Senior Brennan Harmer and freshman Peter LaBarge each registered a shot on goal.
  • Kwong made three first-half saves for the Roos while his counterpart Reagan Moynihan made two.
WHAT'S NEXT?
The Roos head to Keuka College on Wednesday October 11th for a 4:00 p.m. match.
