NAC Men’s Golf Championship Preview

Canton, NY – The SUNY Canton men's golf program is set to host the 2023 North Atlantic Conference (NAC) Men's Golf championship on Saturday and Sunday at Partridge Run Golf & Country Club in Canton.

The championship event will include 11 teams vying for the conference championship and the NAC's automatic qualifier to the NCAA Division III championship to be held in the spring.

"We are pleased this tournament will bring so many teams and their fans to the North Country to help boost our hotels, restaurants and other area businesses," Athletic Director Randy Sieminski said.

The Roos finished a program-best second place at last year's championship and will look to contend for a conference title on their home course. SUNY Canton was picked to tie for second place in a pre-championship poll of the conference's 11 head coaches. The Roos received 103 points and one first-place vote, the same as SUNY Delhi. Husson University was picked to defend its 2022 title with 117 points and the other nine first-place votes. Thomas (88) and Maine Farmington (67) round out the top five.

The Roos have three players returning who competed in last year's NAC Championship, including senior captain Adam Szlamczynski and sophomore Anthony Marion, both of whom placed in the top six last year and earned First Team All-Conference honors.

2022 NAC Championship Results
Adam Szlamczynski: T-4th | 147 (+7) | 75 – 72
Anthony Marion: T-6th | 148 (+8) | 69-79
John McCall: 18th | 161 (+21) | 81-80

The Roos have won three events this fall, placed runner up as a team in two others and been in the top three in eight of the 10 events they have competed in. Szlamczynski has led SUNY Canton in seven of the team's 10 events so far this season as he has won medalist honors at three events, been runner-up twice, and placed third individually two times.

Szlamczynski won the Utica Fall Invitational (74 | +3), the Elmira Fall Invitational (72 | E) and the SUNY Poly Invitational (74 | +3). He also finished second at the Clarkson Invitational where he shot a program record score of 3-under par, 69. The senior also recorded a runner-up showing last weekend at the two-day, 36-hole Oswego State Fall Invitational (148 | +6).

Marion has led the team in two of the three other events including tying for fourth at the two-day, 36-hole St. Lawrence Invitational (151 | +7).  Freshman Jayden Romig led the team placing first at the Wells College Classic (72 | +2).

Szlamczynski was named the NAC Golfer of the Week twice (9/11, 9/25), while Romig was tabbed the NAC Rookie of the Week once (10/2).

After a strong fall season, the Roos will look to contend for a North Atlantic Conference (NAC) championship after finishing a program-best second at least year's championship. Both Szlamczynski and Marion were named First Team All-Conference after finishing tied for fourth and tied for sixth, respectively.

Tee times are currently scheduled to begin at 10 a.m. on Saturday and 10 a.m. on Sunday.
