Emmerton Scores Game Winner, Roos Defeat Thunder 6-1

Angola, IN – Senior Gracyn Emmerton scored her first goal of the season, and the game-winner, at 13:30 of the second period, as the SUNY Canton women's hockey team defeated Trine University for the second straight day.

THE BASICS
  • Result: SUNY Canton 6, Trine University 1
  • Location: Thunder Ice Arena – Angola, IN
  • Records: SUNY Canton (2-0-0) | Trine University (0-2-0)
HOW IT HAPPENED
  • Desiree Snook opened the scoring for the Roos at 17:16 of the first period, potting her second in two nights.  After a battle along the boards, freshman Chamonix Jackson pushed the puck toward the crease, Snook made a nifty move to collect it and tuck it past Thunder goaltender Casey Frank.
  • Trine's Peyton Hans evened the game at 1-1 at 5:42 of the second period, stealing an outlet pass, cutting in front of sophomore goalie Claire Noftell, and sending it home at point-blank range.
  • The Roos responded quickly when freshman Anna Pavlasova won a battle on the end boards and went for a wrap around attempt.  Frank was able to make the save but Emmerton was in perfect position to flip the rebound over the outstretched glove of Frank at 13:30 of the second.
  • Frank attempted to play a loose puck outside the crease early in the third but instead it bounced to sophomore Kyra O'Keefe who deposited it into the open net just 1:26 into the period.  O'Keefe's goal was assisted by freshman Isabella Paswaters and Sophomore Danika Lalonde
  • Sophomore Jayme McIlveen scored a powerplay goal at 3:03 of the third period collecting a rebound and backhanding it into the net.  Her goal was assisted by LaLonde and Paswaters.
  • Junior Halle McKinnon added another goal at 10:57 of the third and was assisted by sophomore Ashten Morris and senior Makayla Young.
  • Freshman Riley Andzel closed out the game's scoring at 15:48 of the third, earning her second point of the weekend.
INSIDE THE NUMBERS
  • For the second night in a row, the Roos offense dominated the Trine, outshooting the Thunder 42-10.
  • Canton held a significant advantage at the faceoff dot as well, going 34/51.
  • McIlveen's powerplay goal was the Roos first of the season.  The team went one for two on the powerplay while the penalty kill was perfect going five for five.
  • Sophomore Claire Noftell made nine saves, earning her second career victory.  Frank made 36 saves for the Thunder.
