Strong Start Lifts Spartans Past Roos

Castleton, VT – Three Roos registered a pair of shots on goal each but a quick start carried host VTSU Castleton to a 3-0 non-conference win on Monday evening.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • Castleton got off to a quick start scoring twice in the opening nine minutes of the contest. Less than three minutes in Ayoob Musanovic buried his second goal of the season. Six minutes later Matt Spiller beat the opposing keeper for the second time.
  • The Spartans tacked on a third first-half goal in the 34th minute when Lucas McCane found Tanner Curtis.
  • The hosts held a 9-5 shots on goal advantage in the opening half leading 3-0 at intermission.
  • Canton held a 5-3 shots on target edge after halftime but was unable to trim the deficit.
 
INSIDE THE NUMBERS
  • The hosts owned a slim 12-10 shots on goal advantage and 5-2 edge in corners.
  • Chris Escobar, Hayden Brimelow and Brennan Harmer paced the Roos with two shots on goal each.
  • Jason Meneses made nine saves in the loss, while Jonathan Maul recorded a 10 save shutout in goal for the Spartans.
