Scarlet Ditoro gave the Roos an early lead and
Kyra O'Keefe also scored but visiting No. 4 nationally-ranked Plattsburgh State earned a 5-2 win v. the SUNY Canton women's hockey team in a Northeast Women's Hockey League (NEWHL) game on Friday afternoon.

HOW IT HAPPENED
- The Roos opened the scoring at 10:28 of the opening period off the stick of Scarlet Ditoro. Asha Hanson fed the puck from the defensive zone to Ditoro at the defensive blue line. She hit Gracyn Emmerton with a quick pass through the neutral zone. Emmerton left a drop-off pass for Ditoro at the right circle as her initial shot was saved by Lilla Nease, but Ditoro buried the rebound.
- Canton held a 1-0 lead on the scoreboard at first intermission behind eight saves from Sirena Alvarez.
- The Cardinals evened things up just 2:07 into the second period. Riley Calhoun carried the puck into the offensive zone finding a cutting Holly Schmelzer out in front as she redirected the puck high past the blocker of Alvarez.
- Two minutes later the visitors converted on a 2-on-1 rush with Ivy Boric hitting Sara Krauseneck with a cross-ice pass finishing once again high over the blocker. Julia Masotta was also credited with an assist on the play.
- Plattsburgh took a 3-1 lead at 16:54 of the middle period when Mattie Norton's shot from the point was saved by Alvarez. Emma McLean put home the rebound at the near post with Calhoun also picking up a helper on the play.
- The Cardinals tacked on a fourth goal just 35 seconds later on another cross-ice pass with Aizah Thompson scoring with feeds from Molly Riggi and Kendall Wasik. Plattsburgh outshot Canton 18-7 in the second period taking a 4-1 lead to second intermission.
- Plattsburgh made it 5-1 on a Mae Olshansky goal 61 seconds into the third period before the Roos got one back three minutes later. Kyra O'Keefe scored beating Lilla Nease high glove side with Desiree Snook and Iida Laitinen picking up helpers on the play.
INSIDE THE NUMBERS
- Six different players had a point for the Roos. Msotta, Calhoun and Krause led the Cardinals with two points each.
- Plattsburgh held a 40-19 edge in shots and slim 28-26 advantage in face offs. The Roos blocked 14 shots compared to four for the Cardinals.
- Alvarez turned aside 35 shots in the loss, while Nease made 17 stops for the Cardinals.
- The Roos were 1-for-1 on the penalty kill, while the Cardinals were 2-for-2.
