Culkin Ties Career-High in Points, Roos Tie Made Threes Record in Win v. Cazenovia

Aniceto Sets D-III Era Made Threes Record

Canton, NY – Joie Culkin tied a career-high with 28 points and the SUNY Canton women's basketball team tied the single-game NCAA D-III era made threes record in an 81-47 North Atlantic Conference (NAC) win v. Cazenovia on Friday evening.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • The hosts jumped out to a 14-6 lead five minutes in and took a 16-12 advantage at the end of the first quarter.
  • Canton dominated play in the second stanza outscoring the Wildcats 24-9. The Roos nearly doubled up Cazenovia in the opening half taking a 40-21 lead to the locker room.
  • The hosts continued to dominate play in the second half outscoring the Wildcats 41-26 en route to the convincing victory.
     

INSIDE THE NUMBERS
  • Culkin led all players with 28 points, tying a career-high she set just last week. The senior shot 11-for-19 from the field and 4-for-8 from behind the arc, while adding seven rebounds and five steals. Hope Aniceto tallied 17 points draining five threes to go with four assists.
  • Jayda Pina had a big game inside with 13 points on 6-for-7 shooting, while Emma Perez recorded eight points, five rebounds, four steals and three assists. Emily Shook and Samantha Dayter dished out six assists each with Dayter hauling down a game-high eight boards.
  • Nina Romeo led the Wildcats with 11 points and Kristina Davis added eight.
  • Canton shot 45.7% from the field and 36.4% from three, while Cazenovia hit on 28.8% and 18.2%, respectively. The Roos held the upper hand in rebounds (50-39), points in the paint (36-18), second chance points (19-7) and points off turnovers (19-12).
  • The Roos 12 made three-pointers today ties the NCAA D-III era single-game record. SUNY Canton also accomplished the feat when they made 12 on February 15, 2020 v. NVU-Lyndon.
  • With five made threes tonight Aniceto set the NCAA D-III era single-season made threes record at 46 breaking teammate Autumn Kunes mark of 42 during the 2019-20 season. Prior to the Roos becoming full-time D-III members Joelle Percy made 47 threes during the 2012-13 season and 58 threes during the 2013-14 season.
