Canton, NY – The SUNY Canton women's basketball team used a strong fourth quarter comeback but were unable to overcome a 23-point halftime deficit falling 70-59 to SUNY Potsdam on Tuesday evening.

HOW IT HAPPENED
- The Bears roared out to a 21-7 lead just 7:37 into the game. The visitors led 22-11 after the opening quarter.
- Potsdam extended their lead to 44-21 at intermission. Jakia Howard led the Bears with a double-double of 11 points and 10 rebounds in the opening half.
- The teams were fairly even in the third quarter with the Bears holding a slim 13-12 edge. Canton made a late comeback bid doubling up Potsdam 26-13 in the fourth quarter but ultimately could not overcome the deficit.
INSIDE THE NUMBERS
- Sophia Munoz recorded a game-high 17 points and added seven rebounds. Joie Culkin tallied 14 points and eight rebounds and Emma Perez totaled 10 points and a game-high six assists. Hope Aniceto chipped in seven points and three assists.
- Howard paced the Bears with 15 points and 10 rebounds, while Bella Barner (10), Mandy Barnell (10) and Carley Hill (10) all scored in double figures.
- Potsdam shot 42% from the field and 37% from three-point range, while the Roos shot 41% and 27%, respectively. Most statistical categories were even with the Bears holding a 19-6 advantage in bench points.

The women's basketball team is back in action on Saturday when they visit NVU-Johnson at 1 p.m.
