Cortland, NY – Senior
Sirena Alvarez made 29 saves but the SUNY Canton women's hockey team dropped a 3-1 decision to SUNY Cortland in a Northeast Women's Hockey League (NEWHL) contest on Friday night. The loss was the first in 11 games for the Roos who dropped just their second league contest of the year.

HOW IT HAPPENED
- Cortland opened the scoring at 11:37 of the first period when Quinn Metcalfe stepped between two defenders and put a shot top shelf from the faceoff dot.
- Fanny Aneborn deflected a Johna Ezzar shot between the legs of Alvarez to double the Red Dragons lead at 8:37 of the second.
- The Roos took advantage of a power play later in the period to cut the lead to 2-1. Karena Barrett banged home a rebound at 13:15 and was assisted by Danika Lalonde and Jayme McIlveen.
- Ainsley Delacourt scored the game's final goal for Cortland at 15:21 of the third, leaving the final score 3-1.
INSIDE THE NUMBERS
- Despite being outshot 23-11 in the first two periods SUNY Canton was able to turn the tide in the third outshooting the Red Dragons 10-8.
- Barrett's goal was just her second of the season but also her second in three games.
- The Roos were perfect on their special teams, going 1/1 on the power play and 3/3 on the penalty kill.
- Alvarez is 9-2-1 on the season with a goals against average of 1.75 which puts her at second and third in the league for each category respectively.
- Molly Goergen finished with 20 saves for Cortland.
