Adams and Taggart Lead Roos Attack in Final Day of Saxon Classic

Alfred, NY – The Roos won their first set of the season but dropped two matches on the final day of the Saxon Classic.  Alyssa Adams led the Roos with 11 kills in the two matches combined while Cadin Taggart finished the day with 10.

HOW IT HAPPENED

 

MATCH 1 - BOX SCORE

·       William Smith sprinted to an early 15-3 lead. The Roos worked their way back scoring the next four points, however, it wasn't enough as the Herons took the first set, 25-12.

·       The Herons continued to dominate early in the second set, leading 13-3. The teams traded points down the stretch but the Roos ultimately fell 25-10.

·       The Roos hung tight in the third set, trailing just 10-7. William Smith ripped off five straight points to take a 15-7 lead, but the Roos rallied to take 8 of the next 13 points and were down by just five at 20-15.  In the end the Herons closed out the set 25-16 and swept the match.

·       Alyssa Adams led the Roos for the second straight match, this time with six kills.  Defensively, Kaylee Clark had 10 digs and Michaella DeCapua finished with eight.

·       Elizaveta Telepova led the Herons with 16 kills while teammate Malya Sayre scored 15.  Elaina Wamhoff tallied 38 assists.

 

MATCH 2 - BOX SCORE

·       In an exciting first set the Roos jumped out early and led 11-6. Alfred slowly closed the gap and eventually tied the score 21-21. The Saxons took four of the next five points and won the set 25-22.

·       In the second set the Roos again took command early leading 8-4. Alfred once again narrowed the lead to 11-9, but the Roos controlled the action the rest of the way winning 25-16.

·       The third set featured a back-and-forth battle with the Roos scoring seven straight points to take a 9-5 lead. Alfred would score six of the next seven points to go ahead 11-10. The Roos staged a rally of their own to cut the lead to 22-20, but the Saxons went on to close out the match 25-20.

·       The Roos, looking to force a fifth set, led early 9-4 on a service ace by Cassidy Werner. After trading points back-and-forth, Alfred ran off nine points in a row to take a 15-11 lead. The Roos rallied once more to knot the score at 19-19 on a service ace by Taggart. The Saxons took the lead again 24-21, but the Roos pushed hard to tie the set at 24-24. Two consecutive Saxon kills were the difference giving the set and match to Alfred 26-24.

·       Taggart led the Roos with eight kills followed by Emily Dreyer and Adams with five each.

·       Clark finished the match with 14 digs and Baily Nadeau registered 10.

·       Jamie Chun led the Saxons with 13 kills.  Darian Ortiz posted 19 digs and Delaney Sims had 37 assists.


WHAT'S NEXT?

The Roos host Elmira College in the North Country Classic next Friday at 3 p.m.  The hosts will play Pratt Institute and Wells College on the second day of the tournament, Saturday at 12 p.m. and 4 p.m. respectively.
