Meneses Strong in Goal as Men’s Soccer Falls 1-0 in Road Opener at Bard

Annandale-On-Hudson, NY – Jason Menses stopped seven of the eight shots he faced in his season debut, but a Bard goal in the 24th minute proved to be the difference as the SUNY Canton men's soccer team dropped a 1-0 decision on the road on Saturday.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • Meneses was strong from the start as he stopped the first four shots he faced over the first 23 minutes, but the Raptors broke through late in the 24th minute. Dylan Jung collected the ball at the right corner of the box, turned inside and bent a shot with his left foot inside the far post into the top left corner.
  • The Raptors held a 5-2 shots on goal advantage in the opening half and took a 1-0 lead into intermission.
  • Bard outshot the Roos 4-1 in shots on target after the half with Canton's lone shot on goal coming off the foot of Chris Cook.
 
INSIDE THE NUMBERS
  • Cook, Chris Escobar and Ethan Leibeck finished with shots on goals for the Roos in the contest.
  • Caleb Ribeiro (4) and Jung (3) produced seven of the Raptors nine shots on goal.
  • Meneses recorded seven saves in the game for Canton, while Gavin Hersey stopped all three shots he faced in the shutout for the hosts.
 
WHAT'S NEXT?
The Roos return to the pitch when they travel across town on Wednesday for a mid-week matchup with St. Lawrence at 4 p.m.
