Nunez & Torales Score as Men’s Soccer Opens Weekend with 2-0 NAC Win at Lyndon

Lyndonville, VT – Agustin Nunez and Martin Torales each found the back of the net to lead the SUNY Canton men's soccer team to a 2-0 North Atlantic Conference (NAC) road win at NVU-Lyndon on Saturday.
 
With the win the Roos remain unbeaten at 2-0-0 in league play.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • The Roos got on the board first in the 27th minute. SUNY Canton played a nice give-and-go along the right sideline and Torales beat a Lyndon defender as he ripped a left-footed shot toward the near post for the early lead.
  • Canton dominated shots 15-4 and owned a 5-2 shots on goal lead taking the one-goal advantage into intermission.
  • The visitors continued to dominate play after halftime outshooting the Hornets 18-1 and 7-0 on goal.
  • The Roos doubled their lead adding an important insurance goal in the 75th minute. After service out wide to Nunez on the right side the senior beat a defender toward the end line and fired a shot across the face of goal toward the far post for his fourth goal of the season.
INSIDE THE NUMBERS
  • Owen Kwong backstopped the Roos with two saves over the first 72 minutes for his third win of the season. Ronald Zavala did not face a shot on target over the final 18 minutes.
  • Brett Roy turned aside 10 shots in defeat for Lyndon.
  • Dylan Vanderpool led the Roos with four shots on goal.
  • The score is the second of the season for Torales and fourth for Nunez.

The Roos have a quick turnaround as they continue conference play on Sunday at 1:30 p.m. at Maine Farmington.
