Marcy, NY – Hunter Olsen posted game-highs of nine points and seven goals but the SUNY Canton men's lacrosse team fell 21-18 in heartbreaking fashion to Maine Maritime Academy in the North Atlantic Conference (NAC) Championship game on Sunday.

HOW IT HAPPENED
- The Roos roared out to an 8-3 start after the first quarter behind three goals from Olsen and two from Zack LaFave.
- Canton scored the first two goals of the second quarter, both coming from the stick of Olsen, to lead 10-3, their largest lead of the game.
- Maine Maritime chipped away at the lead tallying six of the next seven goals to get within 11-9 before LaFave scored with 34 seconds left in the half to give Canton a 12-9 halftime lead.
- The Mariners edged the Roos 5-4 in the third quarter to get within 16-14 headed to the fourth.
- From there it was Maine Maritime who controlled play in the fourth quarter outscoring Canton 7-2.
- Austin Mesler scored the first goal of the fourth quarter but the Mariners rattled off three straight to tie things at 17.
- Alex Jacobs gave Canton a one-goal lead with 10:03 remaining, but MMA held Canton scoreless the final 10 minutes of the game while scoring four times for the 21-18 victory.
INSIDE THE NUMBERS
- Olsen led the Roos with seven goals and two assists, while LaFave had four goals and two assists. Mesler added a pair of goals and an assist and Trent Dow tallied a goal and two assists.
- Jacobs scored twice, Logan McCargar had a goal and assist, Caeden Goodnough scored once and Kyle Fingar had a pair of assists.
- Alex Stevens led the Mariners with seven goals and two assists, while Jayden Wilson had six goals and two assists.
- Zach McCarthy made 12 saves in the win for MMA, while Sam Servati was impressive with 20 saves in defeat.
