Miner Records 5 Hits, Homers as Baseball Hands Cobleskill First NAC Loss in Saturday Split

Cobleskill, NY – Senior Zach Miner went 5-for-9 with a home run as the SUNY Canton baseball team handed SUNY Cobleskill its first North Atlantic Conference (NAC) loss with a split on Saturday afternoon. The Roos won the opener 7-4 before falling 9-2 in the nightcap.

HOW IT HAPPENED
 
GAME 1 – BOX SCORE
  • Cobleskill jumped out to a 2-0 lead with one run each in the second and third innings.
  • The Roos brought three runs each across in the fourth and fifth innings to lead 6-2 after their at-bats in the fifth.
  • Miner hit a three run dinger in the fourth, while Noah Reyes had an RBI double, Alphonse Fuca had an RBI single and Frank Nieto had an RBI triple in the fifth.
  • The Tigers plated a pair of runs in the bottom of the fifth to get within 6-4 after five full innings.
  • Canton added an insurance run on a Dyllon Bour RBI single in the sixth.
  • Kieran Gibson allowed just one base runner over the final two innings including sitting down the Tigers in order in the seventh for the win.
  • Miner went 3-for-4 with a double, home run and 3 RBI. Bougor and Dylan Allen were both 2-for-4 scoring once each with Bougor driving in a run.
  • Gibson threw a complete game scattering three earned runs over seven innings with three strike outs and four walks. It was his fourth win in his last five appearances.
  • Ehtan Straub took the loss allowing six runs with four strike outs in seven innings.
 
GAME 2 – BOX SCORE
  • Cobleskill jumped out to a 9-0 lead after four innings in the nightcap. The hosts scored two runs in the first, one each in the second and third and a five spot in the fourth.
  • The Roos scored one run each in the sixth and seventh on a Jesus Garcia RBI single and a Miner sacrifice fly for the 9-2 final.
  • Miner went 2-for-3 with a run and an RBI, while Reyes, Fuca, Garcia, Kevin Kapfer and Nick Shoemaker had one hit each.
  • Logan Hutter led the Tigers going 3-for-4 with three doubles and 4 RBI.
  • Devin Lewis picked up the win for Cobleskill allowing one run over six innings with eight strike outs and a walk.
  • Miner took the loss for Canton giving up six earned runs with two strike outs and two walks in 3.2 innings.

The baseball team is back in action on Tuesday when it hosts Clarkson at 4 p.m.
