Utica, NY – Frank Nieto had four hits on the day and drove in three runs in the opener as the SUNY Canton baseball team dropped a North Atlantic Conference (NAC) doubleheader by scores of 10-8 and 8-7 on Monday.

HOW IT HAPPENED
GAME 1 – BOX SCORE
- SUNY Canton scored two runs each in the first and third innings. Dylan Allen singled home Noah Reyes and Seth Gilbert walked in Alphonse Fuca in the first inning.
- Don Louis Rodriguez brought across Allen on an RBI double and Frank Nieto plated Rodriguez in the third.
- SUNY Poly scored at least one run in each of the first five innings including three each in the second and the fourth to lead 10-4 after five innings.
- Canton rallied with a run in the sixth and three in the seventh. Fuca scored Dyllon Bougor on an RBI ground out in the sixth and Nieto tripled home Rodriguez and Mackenzie Mather before scoring on a Nick Shoemaker sacrifice fly.
- Reyes, Rodriguez and Nieto had two hits each for the Roos with Nieto driving in three runs.
- Don Vento and Jake Montrose had two hits, two runs and 2 RBI each for Poly.
- Carter Romansky earned the win for the Wildcats throwing six innings allowing five runs with six strike outs and three walks.
- Ty Reed took the loss allowing nine earned runs with three strike outs and three walks in five innings.
GAME 2 – BOX SCORE
- The Roos scored one run each over the first two innings with Poly scoring two in the first and one in the second.
- Nathan Welch scored Reyes on an RBI ground out in the first and Don Louis Rodriguez scored Zach Miner on a sacrifice fly in the second.
- Canton took a 5-3 lead after three innings scoring three times in the third. Allen brought across Reyes on an RBI ground out and Shoemaker and Fuca both scored on wild pitches.
- The Roos extended the lead to 6-3 when Fuca plated Mather on an RBI ground out in the fourth.
- The Wildcats got within 6-5 with two runs in the fifth before the Roos added an insurance run in the sixth when Allen scored Reyes after getting hit by a pitch with the bases loaded.
- SUNY Poly rallied for three runs in the bottom of the seventh ending the game on a 2 RBI walk-off single from Ryan Starr.
- Shoemaker led the Roos going 2-for-2 with a run and two walks. Reyes went 1-for-2 with three walks and scored three times.
- Christopher Ling led Poly with three hits, Bradley Dietz, Paul Barber, Zackary Morrison and James Lynch all had two hits each, while Starr drove in three runs.
- Connor Marcello earned the win for Poly tossing three innings allowing one run with three strike outs and three walks.
- Kieran Gibson took the loss allowing three runs on five hits in 0.2 innings.
