Ty Reed earned the win and
Nick Shoemaker earned the save throwing three scoreless innings of relief as the SUNY Canton baseball team picked up a North Atlantic Conference (NAC) split v. Cazenovia on Tuesday.
The Roos won the opener 4-3 before falling 18-9 in the nightcap. SUNY Canton improves to 3-2 in NAC play, while the Wildcats sit at 2-3.

HOW IT HAPPENED

GAME 1 – BOX SCORE
- Cazenovia and Canton scored one run each in the first inning of the opener as Dylan Allen reached on a throwing error to score Noah Reyes with two outs.
- The Roos took a 3-1 lead with a pair of runs in the second as Welch hit a solo shot to right field and Reyes followed with an RBI single to right to score Seth Gilbert.
- The Wildcats knotted things at 3-3 with a pair of runs in the top half of the third before Seth Gilbert walked home Zach Miner in the bottom of the frame, which proved to be the difference.
- Dyllon Bougor led the Roos with two hits reaching base three times. Gilbert reached base twice with a pair of walks as did Miner who had a single and walk.
- Ty Reed picked up his first win of the season tossing four innings in the seven-inning contest allowing two earned runs with two strike outs and three walks. Shoemaker was dominant in relief allowing just two hits in three innings of scoreless action to pick up the save.
- Aidan Zehr took the loss for Cazenovia allowing three earned runs with four walks and a strike out in three innings.

GAME 2 – BOX SCORE
- The Canton bats got off to a quick start with four runs in the first. Alphonse Fuca brought home Bougor on an RBI single to right. Kevin Kapfer doubled down the left field line bringing home Fuca and Welch and Jesus Gracia doubled in Kevin Kapfer.
- Cazenovia responded with four runs in the top half of the second before Canton regained a 6-4 lead with two runs in the bottom of the frame. Allen singled home Reyes and Welch scored Fuca on a sac fly to center.
- The Wildcats put up a seven run third inning with all seven runs unearned with two outs in the inning after an error.
- Cazenovia tacked on one run in the fourth, three in the fifth and one in the seventh with the Roos scoring twice in the fourth and once in the sixth for the 18-9 final.
- Allen, Welch and Kapfer led the Roos with two hits each with Kapfer driving in three runs and Allen and Welch driving in two each.
- Miner took the loss giving up 10 runs, only four of which were earned with eight strike outs and three walks.
- Tanner Olson earned the win throwing 2.1 innings in relief for Cazenovia without allowing an earned run.
- Anthony Cretella went 4-for-5 with two runs and 5 RBI to lead the Cazenovia bats.
