Austin Records Six Hits as Softball Explodes for 23 Runs in Sweep of Badgers

Canton, NY – Madison Austin went 6-for-8 with five runs and 4 RBI as the softball bats exploded for 23 runs in a 14-6 and 9-4 doubleheader sweep of NVU-Johnson in a non-conference doubleheader on Tuesday.

HOW IT HAPPENED
 
GAME 1 – BOX SCORE
  • The Roos scored at least two runs in every inning in the opener with two runs in the second, third and fifth innings, five runs in the first and three in the fourth.
  • Austin went 3-for-4 with four runs and 2 RBI in the opener, while Mackenzie Currie was 2-for-4 driving in four runs. Selena Tasli finished 2-for-3 with 3 RBI and Sophia Harris drove in a pair of runs reaching base three times with two walks.
  • Angelina LoPiccolo, Kayla Chavarri and Alexandria Mikula also had hits for the Roos with Chavarri driving in a run.
  • Alaina Beane picked up the complete game win throwing five innings allowing six earned runs with three strike outs and three walks.
  • Jennavieve Rapoza took the loss allowing eight earned runs with two strike outs and two walks over three innings. 
 
GAME 2 – BOX SCORE
  • The Badgers jumped out to an early 3-0 lead after their at-bats in the second inning of the nightcap.
  • The Roos responded with a pair of big innings scoring three in the second and five in the fifth.
  • Johnson tacked on one in the fifth and the Roos got one back in the sixth.
  • Austin had another 3-for-4 game driving in a pair of runs. Tasli had a pair of hits and drove in two runs as five different Roos had multi-hit outings and at least one RBI.
  • Harris, Chavarri and Sophia Padilla-Gundersen all had two hits and an RBI each with Padilla-Gundersen and LoPiccolo scoring twice each.
  • Chavarri had a dominant outing on the mound allowing just one earned run over seven innings with eight strike outs and six walks.
  • Alexis Fleischer took the loss for Johnson surrendering seven earned runs with seven strike outs and a walk in six innings.
 
WHAT'S NEXT?
The softball team is scheduled to open North Atlantic Conference (NAC) action on Friday when they visit SUNY Poly for a single game at 4 p.m.
