Bougor, Fuca & Rodriguez Record Two Hits Each as Roos Open Weekend Series at Plattsburgh

Plattsburgh, NY – Dyllon Bougor, Alphonse Fuca and Don Louis Rodriguez all recorded two hits each but a five run fifth proved to be the difference as host Plattsburgh State earned a 10-6 win v. the SUNY Canton baseball team to open a three game weekend series on Friday.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • The Roos scored a pair of runs in the top of the first when Rodriguez reached on an error by the shortstop as both Bougor and Zach Miner came around to score on the play.
  • Plattsburgh responded with a run in the bottom of the inning before the Roos tacked on another run in the second when Miner singled home Frank Nieto.
  • The Cardinals added a pair of runs in their at-bats in the second before Canton regained the lead in the third when Rodriguez found the gap in left center for an RBI single plating Nathan Welch, who opened the frame reaching on an error.
  • SUNY Canton extended their lead to 5-3 in the top half of the fifth when Nieto drew a walk to score Rodriguez.
  • The hosts responded in a big way with five runs on six hits and an error in the fifth inning to open an 8-5 advantage.
  • The Cardinals added one run each in the sixth and seventh to extend the lead to 10-5. The Roos threatened in the seventh nearly scoring two runs as Nick Shoemaker lined the ball in the gap to right center, but the Plattsburgh right fielder was shaded that way making a great diving play.
  • Canton tacked on a run in the eighth when Dylan Allen scored Bougor on a sacrifice fly to right, but the Roos went down in order in the ninth falling 10-6.
 
INSIDE THE NUMBERS
  • Bougor led the Roos going 2-for-4 scoring twice and reaching base a third time with a walk. Rodriguez went 2-for-5 with a run and drove in another run. Fuca finished 2-for-5. Miner and Nieto had a hit, run and RBI each.
  • Sean Malamud improved to 3-1 on the bump for the Cards tossing 6.2 innings giving up two earned with four strike outs and six walks.
  • Gavin Neuland took the loss throwing 4.2 innings surrendering seven earned runs with a strike out and four free passes.
  • Christian Lent went 2-for-3 and scored twice and Kaden Kowalowski had two hits and drove in a pair for Plattsburgh.

These two teams will see each other for a doubleheader on Saturday in Plattsburgh beginning at 12 p.m.
