Reyes Drives in Three in Opener to Lead Baseball to Split at Utica

Clinton, NY – Noah Reyes drove in three runs and four different players had two hits, two runs and 2 RBI in the opener as the SUNY Canton baseball team earned a split v. Utica College on Saturday. The Roos won the opener 15-9 before falling 4-3 on a walk-off in the nightcap.

HOW IT HAPPENED
 
GAME 1 – BOX SCORE
  • The Roos did all of their damage in three innings in the opener with four runs in the second, five in the fourth and six in the seventh.
  • Nathan Welch doubled home two runs in the second, Frank Nieto brought a run across on an RBI and Dyllon Bougor singled home a run.
  • Bougor once again drove home a run in the fourth with a base hit, Noah Reyes reached on an error to score a run, Zach Miner had a 2 RBI single along with Jesus Garcia reaching on an error to score Miner.
  • Canton concluded its scoring with three 2 RBI doubles from Don Louis Rodriguez, Reyes and Dylan Allen in the seventh.
  • Utica scored at least one run in each inning except the seventh but the big innings proved to be the difference for the Roos.
  • Kieran Gibson picked up the win on the mound tossing six innings with three strike outs and seven walks.
 
GAME 2 – BOX SCORE
  • The Roos jumped out to a 3-0 lead with three runs in the fourth inning of the nightcap. Nathan Welch laced an RBI single and Alphonse Fuca scored two runs on a base hit.
  • The Pioneers responded with four runs in their final at-bats in the seventh. Matthew Fitzgerald won the game with a walk-off single with one out. The Roos hurt themselves with three walks in the final inning on the mound.
  • Jake Mangino earned the win for Utica tossing one inning of scoreless ball in relief.
  • Zach Miner took the loss for Canton surrendering four runs with two strike outs and seven walks in 6.1 innings.
 
WHAT'S NEXT?
These two teams will play a single nine-inning game on Tuesday at 3 p.m. at Utica College.
