Fuca Records Two Hits, Shoemaker Scores Twice in Setback v. Brockport

Auburndale, FL – Alphonse Fuca led the Roos with a pair of hits and Nick Shoemaker scored twice, but the SUNY Canton baseball team fell 15-2 in seven innings to SUNY Brockport on Friday.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • The Golden Eagles jumped out to a 10-0 lead after their at-bats in the third inning as they produced two runs in the second and eight in the third.
  • Canton got on the board in the third when Dylan Allen scored Nick Shoemaker on an RBI ground out.
  • Brockport tacked on two runs each in the fifth and seventh innings and one in the sixth.
  • The Roos would score their other run on a Zach Miner RBI ground out in the fifth once again scoring Shoemaker.
  • The game was called after seven innings as the Russ Matt Tournament has a 10 run mercy rule where there is a game immediately following on the same field.
 
INSIDE THE NUMBERS
  • Fuca paced Canton with a pair of hits while Shoemaker scored twice. Ty Reed had Canton's only other hit.
  • Tom Kretzler and Nicholas Pastore paced Brockport with two hits each and combined for 7 RBI.
  • Kieran Gibson took the loss for the Roos allowing nine earned runs with three strike out sand three walks.
  • Adam Douglas picked up the win tossing one inning in relief for Brockport allowing just one hit striking out the side.

The baseball team closes out its Florida trip on Saturday when it takes on Illinois Wesleyan at 9:30 a.m.
