Strong Team Effort Improves Roos to .500 with Win over Paul Smith’s

Canton, NY – Twelve different players scored and Kennady Allen nearly recorded her first double-double as the SUNY Canton women's basketball team used a great team effort to improve to .500 on the season with an 81-30 win v. Paul Smith's on Thursday evening.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • The Roos never trailed in the contest as they jumped out to a 14-0 lead and led 19-5 after the opening quarter.
  • SUNY Canton outscored the Bobcats 21-7 in the second quarter and led 40-12 at intermission.
  • Numerous reserve players saw action and Canton continued to fire on all cylinders outscoring the visitors 41-18 after intermission for the convincing win.
 
INSIDE THE NUMBERS
  • Allen came up just one rebound short of her first double-double posting 10 points and nine rebounds in just 15 minutes, while Shanelle Borth nearly had a double-double on 12 points and eight rebounds in 13 minutes.
  • Hayleigh Armstrong recorded nine points hitting three of her four three-pointers, while Jayda Pina and Autumn Kunes registered nine points apiece combining to shoot 8-for-15 from the field.
  • Joie Culkin chipped in eight points and eight rebounds, while Chelsey Raven tallied eight points and six boards. Shannyn St. Andrews ripped down a team-high 11 rebounds.
  • Jastic Eleby paced Paul Smith's with 15 points, while Jayla Gray produced a double-double on 10 points and 19 rebounds before fouling out.
  • The Roos shot nearly 41% from the field and hit on 42% of their three-pointers, while holding the Bobcats to marks of 16% and 20%, respectively.
  • Canton dominated rebounds (70-37), bench points (55-0), points off turnovers (27-2), points in the paint (48-6) and fast break points (18-2).

The women's basketball team returns to the court on Saturday when they visit NVU-Johnson at 4 p.m.
