West Springfield, MA – Jake Mayette recorded two goals and two assists to lead the No. 3 seed SUNY Canton men's hockey team to a 6-2 win v. No. 2 seeded Anna Maria College on Friday evening in the second semifinal of the Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) Commissioner's Cup.
The Roos will meet Albertus Magnus College on Saturday at 2:30 p.m. at the Olympia Ice Center in the championship game after the Falcons defeated Rivier University 4-1 in Friday's first semifinal.

HOW IT HAPPENED
- The Roos seized the momentum right away scoring just 16 seconds into the contest. Jake Mayette fed the puck cross-ice from the left circle to Filip Jakobsson at the right dot. He played a nifty drop off pass back to Brady Morrison whose initial shot was turned aside by Amcat goaltender Brendan Boncore. Morrison followed the puck up on a diving attempt that ended up in the back of the net.
- Canton doubled their lead at 3:16 of the first period. Morrison circled the puck behind the net to Jakobsson who hit Colton Sipperley at the right circle. He found Mayette with a quick pass into the low slot as he fired a one-timer into the open net.
- Anna Maria got one back at 6:05 of the opening period when Justin Taylor lit the lamp off passes from Patrick Manning and Drew Goupille.
- Canton made it 3-1 at 9:30 of the first when Matthew Headland scored with the skater advantage on a shot from the point through traffic. Mayette and Zac Sirota picked up assists on the play.
- The Amcats cut the lead to one with 1:56 remaining in a high scoring first period. Matthew Byrne scored the power play marker with Jack Sitzman and Sam Cyr-Ledoux setting up the tally.
- SUNY Canton led 3-2 after 20 minutes in a first period that saw 25 total shots on goal.
- The Roos regained the two-goal advantage at 15:12 of the second period when Morrison hit Sam Martin through the neutral zone and he found Sipperley with an outlet pass. Sipperley skated down the left wing and slipped a shot by Boncore.
- Canton extended the lead to 5-2 early in the third period as Mayette netted his second of the night as he looked to pass the puck across the crease and it deflected off a defenseman and in. Sean Shepard and Jakobsson picked up assists on the play.
- The Roos concluded the scoring at 9:07 of the third when Brendan McCormick scored on a rebound off a shot form Brett Bannister that was initially saved. Martin also picked up a helper on the play.
INSIDE THE NUMBERS
- The Roos went 3-for-9 on the power play, while the Amcats were 1-for-4.
- Canton outshot Anna Maria 56-26, while the Amcats held a 37-30 edge in face offs.
- Filip Schlyter finished with 24 saves in the win, while Boncore made 50 stops in the loss.

The Roos advance to Saturday's championship game to square off with the No. 1 seed Albertus Magnus. This concludes the Amcats season.
