Strong Fourth Quarter Leads Women’s Basketball Past Cazenovia, 57-43

Cazenovia, NY – The SUNY Canton women's basketball team closed the game strong outscoring host Cazenovia 18-5 in the fourth quarter to earn a 57-43 North Atlantic Conference (NAC) road win v. the Wildcats on Saturday.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • The Roos jumped out to an early 10-3 lead behind eight points from Hope Aniceto. Cazenovia held Canton scoreless the final 5:26 of the quarter getting within 10-8 after 10 minutes.
  • Canton erupted for 17 points in the second quarter including ending the stanza on an 11-6 run to take a 27-21 lead into intermission.
  • Cazenovia outscored the Roos 17-12 in the third quarter as Canton clung to a one-point lead (39-38) after 30 minutes of action.
  • The Roos started the fourth quarter on an 11-2 run outscoring the Wildcats by 13 over the final 10 minutes to secure the win.
 
INSIDE THE NUMBERS
  • Aniceto led all players with 17 points, while Samantha Dayter stuffed the stat sheet with 13 points and game-highs of 17 rebounds, six steals and five assists. The 17 boards were a career-best for the senior and the most by a Roo since teammate Joie Culkin ripped down 24 on January 17, 2020. Sophia Munoz chipped in 12 points and nine rebounds and Culkin totaled eight points and nine boards off the bench.
  • Alivia Turk led Cazenovia with eight points and eight rebounds, while Bailey Bennett tallied a team-high 14 rebounds to go with five points.
  • The Roos dominated the glass owning a 65-49 advantage including turning 24 offensive rebounds into 15 second chance points. Canton also controlled steals (15-8), points off turnovers (17-6), fast break points (10-0) and points in the paint (10-4).

The women's basketball team returns to action on Tuesday when they visit Wellesley College at 7 p.m.
