DuBois and Harmer Reach Double Figures as Roos Play D-I Exhibition at Buffalo

DuBois Posts Team-High 17 Points in Return to Western New York

Buffalo, NY – Senior Quran DuBois netted a team-high 17 points as the SUNY Canton men's basketball team fell by a score of 129-62 in an exhibition game at NCAA Division I University at Buffalo on Wednesday evening at Alumni Arena.

The exhibition was just the second ever contest for the Roos against an NCAA D-I opponent as they also squared off with Cornell University in an exhibition on November 8, 2018.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • The host Bulls jumped out to an early 18-0 lead five minutes in before DuBois got Canton on the board on a layup 5:23 into the game. The Roos would score their next two buckets from behind the arc on treys from JJ Omaga and Michael Nunnally to get Canton within 25-8.  
  • Harmer scored the next four points for the visitors with Eli Larson and Terrence Fields also adding their first made field goals of the half in the opening half.
  • The Roos went on an 8-0 run with less than five minutes left in the half. DuBois ran off five straight points for Canton at one point with Nunnally adding another three-pointer as Buffalo held a 66-30 lead at intermission.
  • DeMerrill Levy scored Canton's first five points of the second half with Juztin Chambers-Phillips and Moustapha Biao also notching their first points in the scoring column early in the half. Brandon Averitt and Harmer also hit three-pointers over the first 10 minutes of the second half as the Bulls pulled away for the win.
 

INSIDE THE NUMBERS
  • DuBois led the Roos with 17 points, three rebounds, two assists and a steal shooting 2-for-5 from three-point range. It was a homecoming for the Western New York native as he played his high school ball at nearby Niagara Falls.
  • Harmer netted 10 points, two rebounds and two steals on 3-for-6 shooting from three. Nunnally tallied eight points and tied a game-high with six assists. Chambers-Phillips totaled seven points and Omaga added six.
  • Devin Ceaser led Buffalo with 25 points on 11-for-14 shooting. Armoni Foster finished with 17 points, while Isaac Jack (16 points, 13 rebounds) and Kuluel Mading (14 points, 11 rebounds) both recorded double-doubles. Curtis Jones (13), Kanye Jones (11) and Zaakir Williamson (10) all reached double figures for the Bulls.
  • The Bull shot over 70% from the field and 46% from three-point range. The bigger D-I team controlled rebounds (55-20), fast break points (38-9), points in the paint (70-16) and bench points (69-27). Points off turnovers were nearly even with Buffalo holding the slight advantage (22-19).    

WHAT'S NEXT?
The men's basketball team is off for the holidays before returning to the hardwood on Thursday, December 29th when they square off with host Medgar Evers College in the opening game of their tournament at 6:30 p.m.
