Utica, NY – Hope Aniceto and
Emily Shook both reached double figures, but a strong start carried host SUNY Poly to a 69-54 win against the SUNY Canton women's basketball team in the North Atlantic Conference (NAC) opener for both teams on Friday evening.

HOW IT HAPPENED
- Leading 15-10 with 2:11 left in the opening quarter the Wildcats closed the first quarter on an 8-0 run to take a 23-10 lead after 10 minutes.
- SUNY Poly doubled up the Roos 14-7 in the second quarter taking a commanding 37-17 lead into intermission.
- Canton battled back outscoring the hosts 20-13 in the third quarter to get within 13 after three quarters.
- The Roos got within 10 after a Joie Culkin three-pointer with 1:11 remaining as Poly held on for the win.

INSIDE THE NUMBERS
- Aniceto led the Roos with 14 points, while Shook tallied 12 points hitting four of her five threes in just 10 minutes of action. Culkin chipped in nine points, while Emma Perez and Jayda Pina supplied six points each. Sophia Munoz tied a game-high with 10 rebounds.
- Molly Burdick led the Wildcats with 26 points on 11-for-15 shooting, while Lauren Denny (14), Kierra Connor (12) and Lyrik Jackson (11) scored in double figures. Connor added 10 rebounds for a double-double.
- The Wildcats held the edge in rebounds (46-37) and points in the paint (32-12), while the Roos dominated bench points, 18-3.
