Culkin & Munoz Lift Roos to NAC Victory Over SUNY Delhi

Canton, NY – Senior Joie Culkin and freshman Sophia Munoz led all scorers, scoring eight each in a pivotal third quarter, to help lift SUNY Canton women's basketball to a North Atlantic Conference (NAC) victory over SUNY Delhi.

THE BASICS
  • Result:  SUNY Canton 67, SUNY Delhi 44
  • Location: Roos House – Canton, NY
  • Records: SUNY Canton (6-6, 2-2 NAC) | SUNY Delhi (2-9, 0-3 NAC)
HOW IT HAPPENED
  • The two teams traded baskets early in the first quarter before Culkin hit a three to put the Roos up 7-5.  They would never trail again.
  • In the second quarter, Munoz was fouled on a layup and converted the three-point play to put the Roos up 20-13.  Culkin nailed a three and followed it up with a layup extending the lead to 27-19.  An Emma Perez jumper closed the half's scoring for the Roos but a Delhi three with two seconds left cut the lead down to six.
  •  Increased pressure by the Roos in the third quarter led to seven steals and eventually a  20 point lead.  Three pointers by Culkin, senior Autumn Kunes and freshman Emily Shook helped fuel the run and push the Roos to a 51-31 advantage.
  • SUNY Canton continued to dominate the fourth quarter led by Munoz's four points and another three by Culkin as the team closed the game out by a score of 67-44.
INSIDE THE NUMBERS
  • Culkin scored a game-high 18 points, including four three-pointers and Munoz finished with a double-double with 15 points and 15 rebounds.
