Munoz and Culkin Lead Roos to Victory in Road Tilt at Bard

Annandale-on-Hudson, NY – Freshman Sophia Munoz scored 18 points and senior Joie Culkin added 12 more as the Roos used a strong second quarter to take command of the game and beat host Bard 69-38.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • After a tight first quarter that finished 12-12, the Roos opened up a six-point lead early in the second with back-to-back three's by Culkin and senior Autumn Kunes.  Another three by freshman Emily Shook extended the lead to 13 and a jumper by Munoz with one second left in the half put SUNY Canton up 40-18.
  • The Roos did not let up in the third quarter with Munoz and Culkin combining for 11 points and the Roos pushing their lead to 60-31.
  • SUNY Canton would finish strong in the fourth quarter with sophomore Hayleigh Armstrong hitting a three-point shot and a jumper midway through the quarter, helping the Roos close the game out with a 69=38 victory.
INSIDE THE NUMBERS
  • In addition to their scoring efforts, Munoz and Culkin both finished with seven rebounds.  Kunes scored nine points and senior Samantha Dayter scored five points and led the team with eight assists.
  • Mae Redmond led Bard with 16 points and Jade Dinkins recorded a team-high nine rebounds.
  • SUNY Canton dominated second-chance points (13-4), bench points (25-2) and points in the paint (36-12).  The Roos shot 43.5% from the field and held the Raptors to 23.5%.
WHAT'S NEXT?
The women's basketball team opens North Atlantic Conference (NAC) action on Friday when it visits SUNY Poly at 5:30 p.m.
