Canton, NY – Sophia Munoz and
Jayda Pina provided a strong interior presence combining for 29 points and 17 rebounds, but visiting Houghton University prevailed 66-57 in overtime in a non-conference game Saturday evening.

HOW IT HAPPENED
- Play was extremely even throughout with neither team leading by more than nine points. Houghton held a six point lead early on, but the Roos battled back to draw even at 15. The Highlanders led 18-16 after 10 minutes.
- The Roos used a 10-2 run during a two-minute stretch in the second quarter to open up their largest lead of the game at 31-23 after Pina hit a jumper with 2:33 left in the opening half. Canton led 34-28 at intermission.
- Houghton outscored Canton 15-7 in the third quarter to take a 43-41 lead into the fourth quarter.
- The Highlanders led by six at two different points in the fourth quarter including with 3:19 remaining. The Roos used a 7-1 run capped by a Joie Culkin three that tied things up with 1:16 remaining. Both teams had chances to win it but the teams would need overtime.
- The visitors scored the first seven points of the extra session and outscored the hosts 11-2 to earn the win. Â
INSIDE THE NUMBERS
- Munoz led the Roos with her second double-double on 15 points and 12 rebounds. It was her second straight game leading the team in both categories. Pina posted a career-high with 14 points and added five rebounds.
- Hope Aniceto finished with a career-best 12 points to go with four assists, while Samantha Dayter posted seven points, 10 rebounds and a game-high six assists. Â
- Carlee Miller paced Houghton with a game-high 18 points, while Emma Cole (16) and Abby Guiher (11) also reached double figures.
- Houghton shot nearly 39% from the field, while the Roos hit 27% of their attempts.
- Canton held the upper hand in rebounds (55-44) including turning 23 offensive rebounds into 17 second chance points. Both teams struggled from the free throw line, while the Highlanders had the edge in points in the paint (32-20) and bench points (27-19).

The women's basketball team will host its fourth consecutive contest on Tuesday when it welcomes Clarkson University to the Roos House at 5:30 p.m. Â
